What causes slow dialup speeds?
- Modem connections are a conversation between two computers.
For the conversation to work each computer needs to be able to hear & understand what the other is saying
Older modems may have compatability problems that prevent higher speeds. However this is not the most common cause.
Poor phone lines are the most frequent cause of slow dial-up connections. Any interference or signal loss will cause the modems to slow down. The more slowly they speak, the more easily they understand each other.
You can sometimes help fix noise problems by
- replacing old phone cables
- disconnecting unused devices (phones from the phone line while you dial up
- checking and replacing old splitters, adapters, and other similar devices
If you can hear the noise while you are on the phone, you may be able to get the phone company to fix the problem.
When reporting the problem, only talk about what you can hear on a normal phone call. The phone company does not care about your internet speed.

Why does it say "Error 691: Invalid Username or Password" when I try to dial-up?
- The password you sent does not match our servers records
This can be caused by sending the incorrect password, or because your account is suspended.
The most common reason is that your username or password has been typed incorrectly.
- Try retyping your username. It should be your full email address, for example username@saber.net.
- Try retyping your password.
- Make sure that caps lock. Passwords are case sensitive. "A" is different from "a"
- If you use the number pad make sure Num Lock is on.
Bad modem drivers can also cause problems
For help with either drivers or suspended accounts, call (800) 989-8851 and a technician can help you.
